I think today, I will follow the lead of Casey and ponder a song that I have always LOVED and really means a lot to me. (even if it is a little hokey)
Lean On Me- Al Green
Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But, if we are wise, we know that there’s always tomorrow.
Lean on me, when you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on. For it won’t be long, ‘till I’m gona need somebody to lean on.
Please, swallow your pride, if I have made, you need to borrow.
For no one can feel those of your needs, that you won’t let show.
You just call on your brother, when you need a hand, we all need somebody
to lean on. I just might have a problem, that you’ll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
Lean on me, when you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend,
I’ll help you carry on. For it won’t be long, ‘till I’m gonna need
somebody to lean on.
You just call on your brother, when you need a hand, we all need somebody
to lean on. I just might have a problem, that you’ll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load, that you have to bear, that you can’t carry,
I’m right up the road, I’ll share your load, if you just call me.
There are a great many other songs that have more sentimental value, such as Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox and ZZ Top's Tush (these were played at my father's funeral and were his personal favorites) or just about anything by the great George Thorougood, but I've always felt like Lean On Me was my own personal theme song. I have had a lot of family and personal drama over the years and this song reminds me that I don't have to handle it alone.
Thank God.
