Umm, did you know that it's probably not the best idea to have all of your floors refinished 5 weeks before you are due to give birth? Who would've thought? Someone should have warned me because that's exactly what we did.
It all started with me noticing a wet spot (I can't believe I just wrote 'wet spot' on my blog. Hee!) on a canvas basket that I had sitting in the floor in what's soon to be Lucy's room. Hmmm. Curious. Well, that turned out to be a water leak coming from the washer, which backed up to the opposite side of the wall of her room. Clear as mud, huh? After we pulled back the carpet, we realized that some mold had taken root and something had to be done about it. So, hello, homeowners insurance! Usually, that kind of thing isn't covered, but since our claim was relatively small and it was our first one, we didn't even have to deal with an adjuster. A couple of guys came out with big loud fans to dry everything out and then we just had to decide if we wanted to go back with carpet or expose the hardwood floor that has been hidden for so long. Of course, we opted for the hardwood. Duh.
Since insurance was paying for Lucy's room to be refinished and a new kitchen floor laid, we decided to bite the bullet and have the whole house redone. Not that it's a great big house, cause it's not, but we sure do have a lot of crap in it and EVERY. LITTLE. BIT. had to be moved. It was done in 2 stages, each stage taking 3 days to finish and an additional 24 hours until the floor could be walked on.
So, first, we cleared out our and Lucy's room and the hallway, piling everything up in the dining room, living room and kitchen. It was not very good. Or comfortable. We slept on our mattresses that my husband and father-in-law had moved out to our huge shop in the backyard (which has ac and a tv, thank the stars above). It wasn't so bad until they had to polyurethane the floor and we were denied access to our single bathroom.
Hmm, let's do the math. Pregnant woman peeing a bajillion times a day and NO bathroom at home. Yeah, the numbers don't play out well. Let's just say that I'm thankful for some wide topped plastic cups that I had saved for emergencies. And moist wipes.
After the first half had been done, it was time to move everything that we had just piled up to the completed side of the house. Fun! It was kinda like moving twice. Only, without the fun of having a new house. Same great taste, but less filling.
Lucky for us, by the time the crew was starting on the second half of the place, we had borrowed Andy's parents motor home (I will never make fun of them for camping in that thing again, Scout's Honor) and set it up in our driveway. This gave us a toilet, albeit one that you had to step on a pedal to flush, and a shower that you were just flat out of luck if you dropped the soap in because tiny? doesn't begin to describe it. We were grateful for every little bit of help it gave though. For a few nights, I didn't have to pee in a cup and dump it and we didn't have to bath in the kitchen sink. Ahh, the luxuries...
Anyway, we are finally back in the house with newly shined up floors and despite the hardships, it was far and above worth it to have the beautiful hardwood. We would do it all over again, though maybe with a little more preparation and planning. Now, we are dealing with the stress of getting everything that we own to fit back into all the nooks and crannies that it came out of. It's like trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. Eventually, we'll get it all put away, I'm sure.
Anyway, here we are, 2 weeks from D-Day and nothing is happening. The baby is not in any hurry to go anywhere as proven by my last internal exam. They did an ultrasound last week and discovered that she was transverse (sideways), so they are giving her until tomorrow to turn on her own or we will have to discuss other options. Basically, I have the choice of them MANUALLY turning her or going ahead and scheduling a c-section. I don't relish either option, but meh, whatever. I'm getting achy and my feet are so swollen, they look like hotdogs cooked in the microwave too long. In other words, whatever it takes, I'm willing to go with the flow to get my baby here and OUT. OF. ME. Not that I haven't loooooved being pregnant, because I truly have. It's been a pretty smooth ride and honestly, I do realize that if my only complaints are a bit of being uncomfortable and swollen in the last few weeks, I should rejoice. But still. You know how it is. I'm ready to have a drink or 8, sleep on my stomach and wear some type of shoes besides flip-flops. Not to mention, it's getting hot and well, I don't like to sweat.
Oh and I think we have finally decided on a middle name and it's not Madison. However, just in case the baby daddy changes his mind yet again, I'm going to wait to announce it until it's in writing. But, trust me, it's goooooood.

I love hardwood floors! Sounds like you have had quite the adventure over there. One question, what did the animals do during all of this rearranging?
I can't wait to see the floors. And I'm tellin you what? I would've been renting a hotel room instead of peeing in cups and bathing in sinks while 8 months pregnant. You are a trooper for sure.
2 weeks. I can't believe it.
I'm with Lizzie, only two weeks? WOW!! I'm getting excited. Can't wait to hear the new middle name.
Try having them manually turn her first! Trust me, a c-section is NOT fun and much harder to recover from!
I'm with Liz. You really are a trooper. I would have done a hotel room too but you couldn't because of the dogs and cats, right?
Seriously, doing this all while soooooo pregnant? You are my hero.
Also, turn Lucy, TURN!
You are truely one of a kind. I would have been bum'n off a relative somewhere just to have a bathroom. LUCY! Hurry up and do you thing. I'm dieing to know you name. :o)
